Do I give my neighbor a birthday present?

It is my neighbor's birthday on the same day as mine, she is 3 years younger than me. Our parents are really good friends because they work together and me and her get on really well. Her family is going out for a birthday meal and asked if we wanted to make it a joint thing. My parents agreed but we now have the dilemma of whether or not to buy her a present. In normal circumstances i wouldnt of because we are not that close. But it will be really awkward if one of us gets a present but the other doesnt! what do i do??
