What are some good scary books?

i hate reading but i think its because i havent found the right book yet. I am looking for a really really scary book. im rilly in to ghoststories and like stuff like the exorcist and the shining, nightmare on elm street. i dont love stories about vampires or stuff like that but if its a really good book i want to try it. i heard salems lot is a pretty scary book but im confused what its about? thanks!
